IBF Presidents Report

International Budo Federation

Presidents Report 2013

Dear Members

2013 seems to have been a bit of a wet squid for IBF GB, our membership like most Martial Arts Bodies has declined not to the extent I had expected as in the last 3 months we have had upsurge in new members. Most of our clubs are telling me they have maintained their membership but there members just show no inclination to participate in events outside their training nights at best you may get them to turn up for a grading at a weekend as long as its at their own Dojo. Not sure what the answer is as most Martial Arts are suffering with the same apathy.

Yet we have had a few successful events and all these have been low key events at individual Club Dojo’s, our Annual Summer Camp which was first established in 1966 by my father John (Nobby) Clarke 6th Dan has come to a close, 2012 it was cancelled because of the Olympics and 2013 the ACF decided it was not going to rent to people outside the Military. So John Clarke and Colin Carrott organised an event at the Swale Martial Arts Club Friday night did a Grading Course follow the Annual Bash on the Saturday, which was very successful. As for 2014 I will try to hire Dibgate again but don’t hold much hope for the event but will certainly have a August Course.

Tom Starling 7th Dan our Jiu Jitsu Maestro will be now promoting his art in Scotland, England and Wales and Chris St John 6th Dan continues to make an impression in Northern Ireland with both Jiu Jitsu, CombatSombo, Sambo and Judo.

Robin Hyslop has left the IBF to form his own organisation “Red Star Budo” he not completely broke away as all his members will get their insurance through the IBF. He felt that just running Scotland was hindering his expansion and he wanted to move on to an International level and he has done this with my blessing.

On the International IBF front there has been many events and IBF International is expanding at quite a speed but we in the UK have not been supporting them. This I believe is 1) apathy 2) Cost. The IBF UK does not have the finance to pay for teams to travel abroad so the individuals has to pay and if a family travels it can be very expensive. Yet in 2014 the Open Multi-Nations will be in Enschede Holland, this where the IBF was founded by Peter Schonewille 10th Dan way back in the 1960’s. Some our best trips have been in Enschede a brilliant Market Town ask you Club Secretary about organising a trip there

So what of 2014 well we will continue to run Courses, Grading’s etc. plus we have major Judo tournament. Bedford, Sittingbourne, Scotland, Faversham and Folkestone. The IBF is also capitalising on the MMA craze by offering Competitions and Grading in this new form of Combat. Also remember all IBF members are also members of the British CombatSombo Association and as the BCSA is affiliated to the Governing Body for Sombo the BSF you can compete in all Sambo/Combat Sambo events.

To make 2014 successful we need your support.
