Warriors at British Sombo

British Sombo Championships
Dumfries Scotland
Bank Holiday Weekend

Four members of the Warriors Grappling Academy attended this years British Martin Clarke went as British Sombo Federation President, Colin Carrott as National Referee and Keith Costa as Competition Controller. Forth member was 19-year-old Jamie Marzetti our only competitor from the Warriors and he saved the Warriors GA pride by winning the British Open title at u82k for the second year running a great achievement for the 19 year old. For many years the Warriors GA had been the top club in the UK but now we are well behind Northern England and Scottish Clubs but hopefully we will pick up when we enter the Home Counties Open International Sombo Championships in Bedford in July

This years British Open was the best one for nearly 10 years because of austerity throughout the country the BSF were expecting a small entry but there was a bigger entry then last year. There were players from England, Scotland, Wales, Switzerland, Russia, Bulgaria and USA and the standard was exceptional high. In the senior event the medals were evenly distributed but the junior were dominated by Black Knights CombatSombo Club Burnley who took most medals

Jamie will be representing GB in the World Student Sombo Championships next years, which is being held in Russia. 2 fighters from the Warriors Bradley and Casey Belsey will be of to Moscow next week to compete in the European Sombo Championships they will be accompanied by Coach John Clarke BSF President Martin Clarke and committee members Colin Carrott and Pete Wise

Martin finishes his 4-week free Sombo lesson this Thursday. The course was a success with a regular 8 people having a go. Mik Hutchinson takes over next Thursday with an introduction into SportCombatSombo this is where you do Sombo but is allowed to punch and kick this was very popular at the British Open and hopefully we will see some players from our Club competing. After the 4 weeks Mik intends starting a SportCombatSombo Class on a Monday night.

Most our Sombo Players start in Judo in fact most do both Judo and Sombo; because of this we are seeing an increase in our Junior Judo Classes

Anyone interested in Judo or Sombo should go to www.warriorsgrapplingacademy.co.uk or www.youngjudoclub.co.uk or email IBFBCSA@gmail.com tel: 01795 437124
