MP presents award


MP Gordon Henderson’s Award

In recognition of Valuable Contribution to Sittingbourne & Sheppey Community

Our Local MP Gordon Henderson introduced this new award; it was his way of honouring local people a Constituency OBE. The first Sports People to receive the award were Judo/Sombo Experts Martin Clarke, John Clarke and Keith Costa.

Keith Costa 3rd Degree Judo has been with the Young Judo Club for 30 years he teaches the children on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday plus he organises competition and courses. His waste paper and can his collection has added much needed funds to the YJC all this and he is a carer for his wife who suffers with MS

John Clarke 5th Degree Judo Sombo National Coach/MMA National Coach. John has been participating in competition for the last 33 years since the age of 5 in that time he has won many national and international events in Judo, Kurash, Belt Wrestling, and Sombo. He has been responsible for rebuilding the Senior Section in the club and starting the only recognised MMA Club in the area

Martin Clarke 8th Degree Judo, 6th Degree Jiu Jitsu, GrandMaster Sombo started Judo in 1955 under his parents Nobby and Margret Clarke he is President of the Club.

Gordon Henderson has know the club for well over 30 years and has helped the club on many occasion and in appreciation for his support the Club organised the International Budo Federation to award him an Honorary Black Belt for Services to the Club this was last awarded to Sir Roger Moate in the 1980’s Roger was our local MP at the time and a supporter of the Young Judo Club
